In Possessions a woman re-discovers her deceased Puerto Rican grandmother’s story through the journals, art and tapes she inherits. The bequest initiates a process of transformation for Lila, the granddaughter, who eventually comes to embrace her own history and sexuality. Lila had reunited with Meli a year earlier, after a fifteen-year separation, and had started to record her grandmother’s remembrances of growing up in Puerto Rico and coming to the United States to study art.

About Carmen de Monteflores

Carmen de Monteflores is a native Puerto Rican writer living in the U. S. She is the author of the well-received novel, Cantando Bajito/ Singing Softly. She wrote and produced the play, Blood Lines, presented twice in San Francisco, and has written articles, poetry and essays. She is currently at work on a third novel about a teacher in Puerto Rico during the turbulent 1930s and a collection of short reflective essays inspired by shamanism. Read more
